Tasting Notes
Our Rockpile Cabernet is one of these luscious wines. Though initially shy on the nose, aromas of ripe black cherry, loganberry and black cassis emerge. And with further aeration, beautiful undertones of shaved cocoa and vanilla pod become apparent, as well as swirls of meaty and savory star of anise and sweet woodsmoke. Its youthful and energetic entry leads to the expected full-bodied expression of a Rockpile Cabernet. This vintage also has firm yet velvety tannins, concluding in a superb multi-layered finish with candied dark fruit that’s seductive and even more rewarding as it opens further in your glass. Enjoy it over the next 12+ years.
Winemaker Notes
Loose clusters revealed lower yields early in the 2022 growing season (the result of fewer post-bloom flowers being fertilized). Then, high temperatures in early September drove concern about elevated sugar levels. However, more frequent vineyard visits and constant communication allowed us to manage these factors and perfectly time harvest so the wines from this vintage exude beautiful freshness with lots of layered fruit and wonderful aromatics.
