Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
Loam embodies our pursuit of the perfect expression of a wine. Great wine originates in the vineyard, and great vineyards originate in the soil. Most world-renown viticultural regions consist of loam soils and Sonoma County is no exception. Within the loam family of soils is an array of classifications, or “series,” identified and cataloged by four distinctive features: composition, depth, slope, and geographic location. Our family grows Cabernet in 23 of the distinct Loam soil types, yet I felt that only three were worthy of the “Grand Cru” distinction.Loose clusters revealed lower yields early in the 2022 growing season (the result of fewer post-bloom flowers being fertilized). Then, high temperatures in early September drove concern about elevated sugar levels. However, increased vineyard visits and constant communication allowed us to manage these factors and perfectly time harvest so the Cabernets from this vintage exude beautiful freshness with accessible layers of detailed fruits.
Winemaker Notes
Our 2022 Loam is incredibly expressive with aromas of crushed ripe black cherry and blueberry, fresh violet blossom, vanilla pod shavings, warm sweet pie crust and intricately woven dried herbs. Great freshness with lush, silky tannins makes this energetic Cabernet quite accessible for such a young wine. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it still, however, carries its hallmark length and finesse. This beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon will age gracefully for 10+ years.
