Tasting Notes
The single-acre block where these varietals are planted is called Independence, and our 2019 “Independence” Red Wine has a detailed nose of dried apricot slices, shavings of vanilla bean pod, cocoa dusted black cherry and molasses, with hints of dried underbrush. It's savory and rich on the palate, with crumbs of fruitcake and highlights of sweet baking spice. The finish shows voluptuous restraint, with firm tannins just beneath the surface, accented beautifully by balanced acidity. While this wine is easy to appreciate now, it will benefit from a year or two in the cellar and age gracefully for the next 10-15 years.

Some of my fondest family memories revolve around
the dinner table: great food, great wine and, of
course, finishing off the evening with a great bottle
of Port. When we started planting our Rockpile
vineyards in 1999, we chose four of the primary
varietals used in the production of Port and we’ve
made every effort to craft this wine as true to a
vintage Port as possible.
